Summary
BRITISH LANDING AT SALERNO, ITALY, 8 Sept 1943 NSs, AA barrage over Bizerte Bay shows pattern of tracer bullets and silhouettes of guns against the sky, Pan, Allied covnoy north of Sicily. MS, soldiers on deck of ship perform calisthenics. Soldiers carrying mess kits form line for chow. CU British signaller at radio. Seq: Landing operations as LSTs head for shore. Steady procession of unloading: troops, medium tanks, Bren gun carrier-s 9 lorries, medium arty armored scout cars and equipment. Short scene, engineers prepare beachhead soldiers place smoke pots to screen operations during air attack by Germans. VS, bulldozer flattens ground and soleirs peg steel mats into sand. VS, British medium tanks roll along beach, followed by self-propelled HOWs. Other vehicles speed along narrow roadway followed by foot troops and a few horse-drawn vehicles. Soldier gets water from stream and feeds horses. Foot troops trudge along sandy road as Red Cross trucks roll past.
